Coronavirus and The Group Who Everyone Seems To Be Ignoring

If you’re over sixty, the media has been talking about you and the coronavirus a lot lately. If you’re immunocompromised, the media has also put a big spotlight on you. Those with cancer and those who have had transplant surgery have had cameras shoved in their faces. Those with chronic conditions like heart disease, cancer, HIV, and diabetes have also had their names in the paper.
But there is one group that no one has bothered to talk about. They have been completely left out of the conversation about coronavirus and hope to cope with this global pandemic.
That group is those with mental illness and disorders.
When doctors and other health professionals think about disease that affects our physical bodies, what often gets overlooked is how the disease affects our minds. Rightfully so, doctors should be focused on helping their patients alleviate their symptoms and avoid their conditions from getting worse. That’s completely understood.
